About
Us
Our History
H.E.L.P.
started in 1986 when a few Moms met together in a living room as a
group to plan field trips, educational get togethers, and family
outings to offer to their home schooled students and families. In 1988
the group started meeting monthly with specific topics in mind for each
meeting. 1991 brought the establishment and election of the officers.
Our group consists of over 100 families with many different spiritual,
educational, and philosophical backgrounds.
Our Purpose
The group
seeks to provide opportunities that relate to the education of children
and support of families. Our supportive efforts include time set aside
for fellowship and encouragement through supportive speakers and
discussions and also through offerings of resources, workshops, field
trips and group activities.
Core Values
and Goals
H.E.L.P.
is a Christian home school support group open to all families who home
educate their children. Home schooling for Christians is not a calling
to be taken lightly or irresponsibly. Because it is God directed, that
calling may change in the course of our lives. As a result we encourage
parents to be always seeking the Father's direction. We exist to
encourage families and provide tangible ways to help parents more
effectively home school their children. We as a group generally
encourage delayed formal education and emphasize character building in
our children as well as academics. Our goal is not to have more
activities but to provide supportive educational &/or
fellowship
opportunities for our members to make it possible for our members to be
in community with others with interests and pursuits like their own.
Home schooling our children is our first priority, therefore dominating
someone's time excessively violates our values. We ask you to discern
your level of involvement in the many opportunities with this in mind.
The
H.E.L.P. group is not formally affiliated with any particular church or
denomination. Our goal is to provide fellowship, encouragement, and
field trips, workshops, and resources for our members to benefit from.
Our membership is open to any home schooling family for support.
Please
understand that although we are glad to assist you as much as possible,
all suggestions and information come to you as one parent to another
and not as legal or professional advice.
Our
organization is in no way responsible for the education of children.
H.E.L.P. does not provide curriculum or keep records for you.
Serving
Serving
others is a core value that makes H.E.L.P. what it is. H.E.L.P.
operates entirely by volunteer effort and will not function without it.
We believe God has given each of us various gifts that can be expressed
to be a benefit to us all in community. Giftedness can be expressed at
this time in your life by serving in an area of H.E.L.P. We ask that
members have a helpful spirit and a willingness to serve as well as a
consideration for those who are offering themselves in service. Each
member has something they can offer to the group and may contribute and
serve us all in some way. By serving, a member can feel more of a sense
of belonging. Please be discerning of the commitment level of the area
of service, and how much you realistically can contribute during the
current season of your life. Some areas require a minimum amount of
time such as being a RSVP contact person, while others such as Board
Positions, or organizing a large event requires more of a time
commitment. Opportunities are listed and a sign up sheet is on occasion
made available to members at monthly support group meetings. Members
may also be contacted by phone if needed.
